Fiber Services
Founded in 1998, First Communications Inc. is a leading regional competitive communications provider offering high-capacity metro and long-haul fiber network services across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic United States and into Canada. First Communications’ fiber network covers key low-latency routes over a unique footprint comprised of 5,600 fiber route miles, including approximately 500 metro miles reaching more than 50 Tier 1, 2 and 3 markets. Through numerous acquisitions and strong organic growth over the last five years, the First Communications network has grown to include more than 250,000 fiber miles.
The First Communications Fiber Services Group (FSG) is comprised of knowledgeable telecommunications professionals with extensive experience in providing fiber services to carriers and enterprise organizations. Through FSG, First Communications offers wavelength services over its high-capacity transport network, connecting Newark, New York City, Buffalo, Toronto, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Ashburn, VA, and many points in between. Much of the company’s fiber-optic network runs along FirstEnergy rights of way (ROW), through which First Communications has access to FirstEnergy’s 67,000-square-mile territory. These unique ROWs enable First Communications to provide route diversity not offered by other network service providers.
First Communications’ metro and long-haul fiber assets, combined with the company’s extensive experience designing and deploying custom fiber networks, allow First Communications to offer a host of services designed to meet the specific networking needs of both carriers and large enterprises.
DWDM Network
First Communications has made significant investments in deploying the latest carrier-class Dense Wave Division
Multiplexing (DWDM) technology to create an industry-leading highly scalable, low-latency transport network infrastructure, which provides service over high-demand routes. The initial network deployment included lighting 1,970 route miles of fiber to provide low-latency transport services between major carrier hotels in Tier 1 cities. First Communications’ DWDM network has multiple low-latency routes, and in some cases, provides the fastest route available in the industry.
A growing list of carrier and wholesale customers rely on First Communications’ transport services, including regional service providers, utilities, large enterprises, financial organizations, schools, universities, health care providers and state and local governments, among others.
